History of Leitrim Soaps

Leitrim Soaps, based in Foxfield, Co. Leitrim, Ireland, has a rich history rooted in creativity, family, and a passion for natural products. Our journey began in 2013 when Tiina Laas, an Estonian native, purchased 12 quails as pets. She discovered the incredible health benefits of quail eggs, which even helped cure her frozen shoulder syndrome. This inspired her to expand the operation, and soon, she was supplying local shops and markets with quail eggs.

The family business saw further expansion when Tiina’s daughter, Liisa, joined her in 2014. Liisa brought with her a wealth of experience from various roles across Europe and the United States. She took on responsibilities for the farm’s finances, logistics, marketing, and online activities, helping to drive the business forward. In the next couple of years, the farm was supplying supermarkets and restaurants across Ireland.

Tiina’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Always brimming with creativity, she began making soap on her kitchen table as a hobby. This hobby was quickly turned into a second business by Liisa and her then-partner, leading to the birth of our handmade soap business. By 2021, our soaps, which featured the luxurious and historically revered donkey milk, were being sold in stores across seven countries in North America and Europe. Currently, we offer only one Donkey Milk Soap -, a pure Fragrance Free version known for its natural moisturizing and exfoliating properties.

What began with just 12 quails has now transformed into a thriving enterprise. Today, Leitrim Soaps offers a diverse range of natural, handmade bath and body products, including soaps, lip balm, shower steamers, and deodorants. Our products are available online and through approximately 100 retailers worldwide.
